Burna Boy's 'I Told Them' Album is A Message to Doubters

Burna Boy’s seventh studio album, ""I Told Them is a message to his doubters, both in Nigeria and around the world. He says that the album is for "anyone who doubted him at first when he started his music career."

The album has 15 tracks and features a number of high-profile artists, including Ed Sheeran, Kehlani, and J Balvin. Burna Boy has said that he wanted to make an album that was "globally appealing" and that would "showcase the best of African music."

In an interview with Apple Music, he said that he wanted to make an album that would "make Nigerians proud."
"They say many times that a prophet is not recognized in his own home, but I want to make an album that will make Nigerians proud and show them that I am a global superstar,” he stated. It is a well-crafted album that showcases Burna Boy's versatility as an artist. 
He blends a variety of genres, including Afrobeats, reggae, and hip hop, to create a unique and exciting sound which appeals to his in a big way. 

The album's title track, "I Told Them," is a defiant anthem in which Burna Boy declares his success and tells his doubters that he was right all along. The song is a celebration of Burna Boy's journey from obscurity to global stardom.  Other famous records off this album are ‘Sitting On Top of The World’, ‘Talibans II’ and ‘If I Am Lying’

The album also features a number of guest appearances from some of the biggest names in music such as 21 Savage, RZA, Seyi Vibez, J Cole, Byron Messia and Dave.  The album has been met with critical acclaim. Pitchfork gave the album a 9.0 out of 10 rating, calling it ""Burna Boy's best album yet." The Guardian gave the album a 4 out of 5 star rating, saying that it is "a masterclass in Afrobeats."

‘I Told Them’ marks Burna Boy's 10 years in the music industry and is a tribute to his success in a creative way. The album initially came up in June 2023, when he made history by being the first African performer to lead a stadium tour. 

The first single from the album, titled ""Sittin' On Top Of The World"" featuring 21 Savage, a remix of his original song, was dropped on June 23, 2023. Following this, the second single "Talibans II" featuring Byron Messia, a remix of Byron's viral hit "Talibans," was released on July 21, 2023.

Just one week later, on July 27, 2023, Burna made an official announcement about the album, coinciding with the release of the third single titled "Big 7," which serves as a melodic tribute to the heights he has achieved in his career.

Then, on August 21, 2023, Burna revealed the official tracklist, hinting at collaborations with Dave, GZA, J. Cole, RZA, and Seyi Vibez. Shortly after this announcement, the album's final single, "Cheat On Me," featuring Dave, was released on August 22, 2023.
