Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale says he feels empty knowing that Jamaican dancehall crooner Vybz Kartel is currently unwell as he continues to serve his prison sentence.
Shatta and Vybz Kartel go a long way back. They worked on several music projects together, with ‘Mansa Musa’ being the most popular collaboration by the duo.
Besides music, the two dancehall icons share a unique friendship and Kartel’s imprisonment hasn’t been easy for the Ghanaian singer.
In a lengthy Instagram message, Shatta Wale wrote Kartel’s imprisonment has left a void in the music world.
""It pains me to know that you are not well, and my heart longs for your swift recovery…. Your absence has left a void in the music world, and in the hearts of those who have been touched by your extraordinary talent,” he wrote.
He praised the ‘Sixteen’ singer for always being resilient in the face of adversity and being determined to do music reflecting his soul despite being in a prison cell.
A Jamaican court handed Kartel a life sentence in 2014 for killing his friend Clive ""Lizard"" Williams.
With close to a decade behind prison walls, Vybz Kartel will only become eligible for parole after serving 35 years.
Nevertheless, he continues to make music with a historical 50 new songs in 2016.
Shatta Wale sent his sympathies a few days after Vybz Kartel released his latest songs, ‘Terror By Night’ and ‘Sixteen’.
