Khaligraph has done it again, 'fake friends kwaheri'
2 December 2013
Last week we did a story about the versatile Hiphop artist Khaligraph Jones working on a brand new ‘Zilizopendwa’ track featuring ‘Les Wanyika’ a tribute to them.
Good news to all fans, the new track is out. This very skillful rapper who spits fluently in both English and Kiswahili has again delivered his punchy and clever lyrics in a unique style.
I must admit that ‘Ulimwengu Wa Sasa’ is one awesome tune and a good combination of new school and old school music.
Speaking to Mdundo over a phone interview Khaligraph Jones said that the inspiration behind the song is basically about the fake friend we have in life who come in when things are good but run away when it gets tough.
“I wanted to do a song that both the older and new school generation will enjoy and that’s why I sampled ‘Les Wanyika’ using the vocals and the beat but in an urban style,” said Khaligraph.
My favourite line in the song comes in the last verse; “....say bye to the fake friends, fake friends kwaheri- wana come ukikula pizza- wanahepa ukidish githeri..” then the next line “....They wanna take me down but I walk with Jesus though..” I gotta give it up to Khali for his lyrical prowess.
