Wayε Me Yie’ hitmaker Piesie Esther has no problem with VGMA after losing the much touted Artist of The Year position to Black Sherif
VGMA held its 24th edition on Saturday night in Accra.
The ‘Mparema’ singer said she had no reservations for not winning the award adding it was a big honour getting a nomination in this category and winning in others.
I was not disappointed at all for not winning the Artist of the Year. In fact, I was thinking I could also win but if I didn’t win and Blacko won that’s also fine because he has also worked for it. It was in my mind that if I win fine but if another person won it’s fine,” she told Andy Dosty on Hitz Day Break.
This was her first award in her long career which she uses not just to minister but to inspire other generations of singers.
She says that awards shouldn’t define one’s success when it comes to music rather, the impact that her songs leave her listeners with.
Esther won the Gospel Song of the Year and the Gospel Artiste of the Year at the 2023 VGMA.
She is on record saying that ‘Wayε Me Yie’ changed her life because it is her most successful song yet in over a decade.
