The Twitterverse thought “Cheyenne” singer Jason Derulo took a spill on the red carpet at the 2015 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, which is better known as the Met Gala, except he wasn’t even there. The star took to his Instagram and Twitter accounts to respond to the rumor.
“Lmao I'm at rehearsal in LA. F--- ya'll! Lol” he captioned an image of himself holding a microphone. The IG post was quickly liked by thousands of his 1.3 million followers after minutes of being on the social media site.
Most fans found the misunderstanding funny and commented with pictures of laughing emoji. Others took the opportunity to comment about Jordin Sparks, Derulo’s ex-girlfriend.
Sparks, 25, didn’t comment about the mix-up with Derulo, but she did say that she thought Rihanna looked amazing.
It’s not clear how the mix-up started, but the Huffington Post wrote that the picture, which shows someone falling down the steps, wasn’t even from the 2015 Met Gala. It apparently occurred at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
Nope guys, that's not @jasonderulo falling. That's some other dude at Cannes in 2011. #MetGalahttp://t.co/KdewWnzGRN pic.twitter.com/8wATsOtNIu

People thought this picture was hilarious, and shared it without giving it a second look. If they did look a little harder, they would notice the man does not resemble Derulo -- at all. For one, they don’t even have the same skin color.
The guy in the photo has still not been identified, but is simply known as “Cannes Fall Guy.” The photographers behind him didn’t get a shot of his spill because they were too focused on taking pictures of the stars in front of them.
But back to the Met Gala: Rihanna and Kim Kardashian were early favorites of the night, with fans highly anticipating the debut of Beyoncé. The fundraiser tried something new, and instead of streaming it online, the event could have been viewed through the video app Periscope.
