‘Sugarcane’ is the highlight of musical success for Ghanaian Afrobeats singer Camidoh but it wasn’t possible without a huge financial muscle to push it to other markets beyond Ghana.

It was the song’s remix featuring Mayorkun, Darkoo and King Promise that went viral across the continent and beyond.

His manager George M. Britton explained that it took 975,000 Ghanaian cedis to produce each of the songs and to promote them.

“Camidoh attained global success as one of Africa's most streamed artists after spending just over Ghc975,000 in a year, on one song,” Britton explained in a long Facebook post explaining how the song registered immense success.

They paid for TV and radio promotions of the song in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, the US and the UK.

Further, there were online ad sponsors, social media influencers, and content creators in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, the UK, the US, Tanzania.

Britton credits nightclubs and bars in Africa as well as the UK for playing a big role in popularizing ‘Sugarcane’ by Camidoh.

Britton says that to get to this level of success, Ghanaian artists must invest more in major recording labels and get support as well from the government.

“To constantly achieve this success and more, the music industry will need a much stronger enabler, i.e., the presence of major record labels, heavy financial support from the government, and angel investors in the music industry to help propel the artists to a global stage,” he concluded.
