Last year marked one of the most active and vibrant years to have ever been witnessed on the Kenyan music scene. 2022 produced many new promising talents; it was also the year that the majority of veteran musicians bagged their prime achievements. It laid a perfect foundation for the industry's successful take-off in 2023.

Barely three days into the new year and the Kenyan music industry is already looking promising. Both rising star musicians and established ones are already on their toes to make every single day of 2023 count. As the industry gears up for a buzz of activities, there are a number of artists who will be under the microscope.

King Kaka

The Kaka Empire boss is the first Kenyan musician to release a music album in 2023. The veteran rapper officially released his 6th studio album dubbed 2nd Life on January 1st. The Gospel album features 17 songs with 2 singles and 15 collaborations. It has been treated to a warm reception among music lovers. Having started the year on a high note, King Kaka's fans will be curious to see if he will maintain the tempo throughout the year.

Nikita Kering

The RnB star has maintained a successful track record with an upward trend for two consecutive years. In 2021, she released her international breakthrough song 'Ex' which led her to be crowned as the best East African female artiste. In 2022, she stamped her presence in the global music market with her album titled 'The Other Side'. She became one of the top African artists to grace BBC's 1Xtra Afrobeats concert with her breathtaking performance.

Will Nikita Kering' sustain her growth as an international music star?

Fathermoh

The Gengetone sensation was among the major highlights of 2022. The majority of the songs he produced or collaborated on turned into hit songs. His viral 'Dai Dai' song brought the whole industry to a standstill. He also had a notable contribution to the success of 'Kuna Kuna' song which was arguably one of the year's best songs. Fans are already anxious to see what the youngster has in store for them.

A section of fans is also keen to see if Fathermoh will continue branding himself as an independent artist, or if he will be part of the Mbuzi Gang music group.

Sauti Sol

The multi-award-winning boy band released its viral 'Lil Mama' in November last year after being silent for approximately two years. Within two years, the members of the band were building their music careers as solo artists. Will the artists continue releasing songs as a band or as independent members? Well, 2023 will be the year to find out.

Not to forget, music lovers are anxiously waiting for the music video of 'Lil Mama' after its audio went viral and accrued millions of views and streams.

Femi One

The rap queen was named as the best female rapper of the year at the 2022 Afrima awards. She became the first East African artist to receive the award. The achievement together with the series of top hit songs that she produced throughout the year set a high standard for her. The rapper will, therefore, have to live to the standard or exceed it. This means that now more than ever she needs to work even harder.
