Coke Studio: Artists who overwhelmingly impressed!

The explosive Coke Studio Africa Episode 8 aired over the weekend and it’s always a fight whether to watch it or TPF 6.

Had to settle for Coke Studio and was I pleased! It was another interesting performance from Miss Karun (Kenya), Bez (Nigeria), Tumi (S Africa), Salif Keita (Mali), MI (Nigeria), Diamond (TZ) and Waje (Nigeria).

It was an epic show from all these artists.

Bez & Tumi – Rebel Woman- originally done by the deceased Zimbabwean star Chiwoso Mairare, the two did justice to the song which takes inspiration from a poem about the role of women in Zimbabwe.

Diamond & MI – African Queen- who ever thought diamond would do a song in English. Well, he and MI didn’t disappoint 2Face Idibia, the original composer.

Miss Karun – Hold It Down- originally performed by Camp Mulla which she was part of, she did hold it down for the whole team alone. That’s why I used to call the group ‘Miss Karun and the other Guys’.

Salif Keita – Madan- A song of celebration about the strength of working together as a community when the harvest is reaped, Salif killed it on this one.

Waje – Iyogoyoga- originally written by Onweya Onwena from Nigeria, she did not fail her fellow country woman who is referred to as the Beyonce of her time. Waje was on point especially on the vocals.
