With a career spanning over three years, Kenyan Hip-hop artist, rapper, record producer, and songwriter, Is This Abdul is famous for his raps that are full of self-aggrandizement and anti-establishment. With two singles, this Nairobi-born record producer and music video director has worked his way up the ladder in the music industry with great determination. His influence as a key Hip-hop and Drill artist on the Kenyan popular culture earned him a name on E360 awards 2022 nominated as the Emerging Artist. He became popular throughout Ruai with his hit single ‘Wacha Kunipima’. Now, he has effectively captured the attention of large population, and has achieved widespread recognition despite remaining an independent artist.
Early Life
Is This Abdul was born Abdulrashid Kinyua Samir on June 11, 1999 in Pumwani, Nairobi to a Kenyan father and a Tanzanian mother. He is the second of four children. He grew up in Mathare Slums, Nairobi with his parents and siblings until he was 14, and they moved out and found new settlement in Ruai, Nairobi where he started high school. During his early days he attended St James school and Mcedo Beijing School for his Primary school and joined Drumvale Secondary School and later Koma Ranch High School we he completed high school.
Music Career
He started rapping at the age of 15. In 2019 he started producing music for his friends. Later on in 2021, Abdul alongside his elder brother founded Seven dB Records. In January 1, 2022 Is This Abdul released his first debut single Wacha Kunipima which wasn't received so well. Four months later, on 4th April 2022 he released his second single Nitakupeleka London. Both singles were released independently under his label Seven dB Records and got on Spotify and other International streaming platforms like Deezer, Apple Music, Amazon Music, iTunes, Facebook and Instagram.
Personal Life
Is This Abdul practices Islam. He has been an Arsenal Football Club fan since childhood.
