Who is Reekado Banks?

He is a singer, songwriter and performer from Lagos, Nigeria. His real name is Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon. He was born on December 6 1993. Reekado Banks became a popular figure after signing into Don Jazzy's Mavin record label in 2014. He is known for his excellent vocal ability and songwriting skills that enabled him to produce hit songs such as Katapot, Ladies and Gentlemen and Koloba among others.

His early life and how he started doing music

Born in 1993, Reekado Banks is the last born in a family of 6 children where his dad is a pastor and his mom is a caterer. Reekado Banks was born in a religious, but musical environment. During his teen years, he learned a lot of musical stuff from his brother Temi. He started off as a rapper but later switched to singing. During the early stages of his career, he went by the name Spicy but later changed it to Reekado Banks. Reekado is a Spanish name meaning ruler of kings while Banks means being rich and content musically.

His brother Temi paved the way for him musically by submitting some of his music to Mavin records through an online music search. He managed to defeat over 5,000 contestants and was eventually signed into the label. He was unveiled together with Di'ja and Korede Bello.

Under Mavin, he released his first song dubbed Turn It Up featuring Tiwa Savage, but it was until he featured on Dorobucci alongside other Mavin artists like Korede Bello, Dr Sid, Tiwa Savage, Di'ja and D'Prince that he got his major breakthrough. Under the label, he made a name as a top Nigerian singer thanks to his amazing hits.

After 4 years at Mavin, the talented singer left the label in 2018 and started his own talent powerhouse known as Reekado Music.
