OPINION: How to know a song is a hit or a miss

For any artist out there no matter where in the world you are, the aim of releasing your music is for it to be popular amongst fans and to get appreciation from all over; in fact I tend to think of it as a measure of one’s success in the music industry.

But how can you as an artist measure if a song’s hit or miss? How do you know that a song is great and worth the time to push out to your fans; I believe it all depends on what the artist is out to represent, because ideally the general perception of what a hit song is tends to be one which can last for many years in the industry, and still maintain a sense of relevance and importance despite the time difference.

As an artist before you get into the industry, you need to study what the market needs and come in as a bridge to connect the need with the people this means giving the society relevant subjects.

Each song has its audience and that’s what artists need to have in mind when working on something new, your music may or may not be accepted by audiences but despite the different reactions your main focus should be on the particular audiences who are responsive and are always keen to hear what you have for them.

So back to the initial question how do we know if it’s a hit or a miss? My response may seem vague but as long as you have your specific target audience, keep it real , have a relevant subject matter and give your heart and soul to the music that my friend is how you know your song is a hit or miss.
