Mdundo is highlighting Nadia Mukami as our Woman in Music today. Born in Nairobi in 1996, Nadia is a talented singer, songwriter and businesswoman.

Blessed with an amazing voice and great songwriting skills, Nadia is currently a force to reckon with in the Kenyan music industry especially in the Afro-pop and Swahili RnB genres.

Despite being young in the industry, Nadia is doing amazing things that have set her apart as one of the best female artistes in the country.

Although she is yet to release an album, she has a seven-song EP dubbed ‘The African Popstar’. The EP was arguably one of the biggest projects in Kenya in 2021.

Some of the top songs from the EP include; ‘Wangu’ ft Sanaipei Tande, Jipe ft Marioo and Tesa ft Fena Gitu and Khaligraph Jones.

On YouTube, she is one of the most watched female Kenyan musicians, with most of her videos surpassing one million views.

Her talent has not only been recognized and appreciated locally, but also abroad. In 2021, Nadia was nominated for MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) award under the Best Fan-Base Award Category. She was nominated alongside African music giants including; Diamond Platnumz, Cassper Nyovest, Wizkid, Shatta Wale and Fally Ipupa among others.

Unfortunately due to Covid-19, the award gala that was set to happen in Uganda did not take place.

In March 2020, she was among artists who were selected for the first round of BET nominations alongside Sauti Sol. Unfortunately; they were not selected for the second round.

In 2019, she was selected to represent Kenya at Coke Studio Africa and got a chance to work with Tanzanian producer Ayo Lizer and musicians; Shellsy Baronet (Mozambique) and Juma Jux (Tanzania).

In a bid to nurture and support upcoming musicians, Nadia recently launched her record Seven Creative Hub label and unveiled Latino as its first artist.

Away from music, Nadia runs a financial discipline programme where she educates young people on the importance of saving and investing.

Mdundo thanks Nadia for being an inspiration to young female musicians and demystifying the myth that the music industry is a reserve of the male.
