Nazizi addresses gun violence in Kenya, Jamaica
20 November 2013
Multiple award winning artist Nazizi Hirji, East Africa’s first lady of Hiphop and queen of Kenyan dancehall, is back with a major hit featuring Jamaican Ginjah.
The song tittled ‘Don’t Squeeze Ya Trigger’ is about gun violence in the streets of both Jamaica and Kenya especially among the youth.
Considering that the song was recorded a year ago and with the recent happenings at Westgate Mall, the song is still relevant.
“It was a great honor to work with such a humble international artist and that was a clear confirmation that the African story is powerful. The song is a message to all the people to go easy on gun violence,” she told Mdundo.
Nazizi who began writing songs from an early age came into the limelight when she released her first single ‘Ni Sawa Tu’ at the age of 16 which received a lot of airplay on local TV and radio stations.
Also being part of Necessary Noise and East African Bashment Crew, she’s the most awarded artist in kenya with a total of 17 awards under her name.
She recently did a collabo album with Jamaican artist Ginjah titled ‘Motherland’ with 13 tracks on it. Off the album is the song ‘Don’t Squeeze Ya Trigger’ with a strong engaging rhythm flowing for 3 mins 22 seconds.
