A lot happened in Zambia’s music industry in 2021. The year brought with it an electioneering period that impacted the industry so much. A part from the elections, there was also the Covid-19 pandemic that was a setback for most artists. Despite the challenges that came with 2021, some artists still managed to stand tall. Below are ten artists whohad a great year in 2021:

Pompi

Pompi was all about great vibes in 2021 especially after marrying Esther Chungu early in the year. He has released ‘Kwacha’ which tells a scintillating story.

Esther Chungu

Call her a gospel queen who elevated Zambia following her stellar performance at the Global Citizen Live Concert in New York. Esther shared the stage with Coldplay in New York and performed her hit song ‘Jehovah’.

Yo Maps

You all know Yo Maps for his great musical success. But, not many knew him before 2018 despite venturing in the industry in 2008. It took him 10 years to be recognized and all this time, he never gave up. He recently released his new album ‘Komando’ – the first one in 10 years.

Towela

She is the youngest of the Kaira’s. Her fame, talent and consistency are a path for success as evident with her all-time hit ‘Lover’ released in 2021.

Umusepela Chile

Wezi Heartsound

Wezi is the epitome of patriotism and heritage in Zambia. 2021 is the year that elevated her into the hearts of Zambians and in the national political scene thanks to her inspirational and moving music.

Bombshell Grenade

Her latest album ‘Mfumu Kadzi’ signifies a new era in women empowerment. She is relentless as is clear with her ‘Assassin’ single. Besides, she won an AFRIMMA award as the Best Female Rapper.

Princess Natasha Chansa

At 21, Natasha is a force like no other in Zambia’s hip hop scene. Her new EP ‘Genesis’ won her accolades and this was just the beginning.

Macky 2

Out of his musical works throughout the year, ‘Beautiful Night’ featuring AKA did it for his fans. It is a master collaboration, from one great mind to another.
