DJ Qness Accused of Stealing 2021 South African Amapiano Awards Concept

The year 2021 will go down in history as a special year for Amapiano artists, courtesy of the South African Amapiano Awards which was had its inaugural gala on October 23, 2021.

Top Amapiano artists and other entertainers graced the event held at Sandton Convention Centre.

However, it has now emerged that the event organizer DJ Qness is being accused of pirating the event’s concept from Amapiano Awards. Amapiano Awards founder said DJ Qness stole the whole concept and changed the event’s name to make it look different.

He was allegedly served with legal papers to keep off from holding the event, but everything proceeded as planned.

Now, lawyer Masilo says they will pursue the DJ for legal action to be taken. But even as this happens, DJ Qness says he was never served with any legal notice regarding the event.

“I haven't received anything about lawyers yesterday or today. I'm just fulfilling my purpose. I'm honoured to have been able to,” he told TshisaLIVE.

"The award show for me was about all the kids who took to the townships and started creating music in the back room using a computer that barely had a screen. This is what amapiano is about because I was that artist who started from nothing. I had to suffer to become DJ Qness,” he added.

 Those who won big at the event include; Boohle, Kamo Mphela and Kabza De Small among others.
