Music and fashion are interconnected on several levels with each influencing the other. As an artist, having a unique style can help you stand out among your peers. Fashion creates a first impression about how your fans are going to perceive or consume your music.

In Uganda, back in the 90s, legendary artists had a distinctive and rather unique ‘image’ associated with them. For example celebrated Kadongo Kamu hit maker Paul Kafeero was identified by his famous Fedora hat that always stood out as his signature look. The ladies in this genre always donned traditional Kiganda 'Gomesi'.

Fast forward to the new generation, artists have mastered the art of fashion. The evolution has seen artists like Ykee Benda always make a fashion statement every time they step out. Despite the design that he is donning, the Mpaka Records boss will always sneak in a hat and a neck chain.

Kabako is one of the most vibrant Uganda artists on stage; during his live performances and every time he makes a public appearance, he is always in shorts. He has made a statement as an artist who will never put on long pants. The recent occasion was when he showed up for fellow artist Nubian Li's wedding all suited up, but in shorts.

Grenade Official chooses to show part of his chest as a signature look especially for his socials.

Afro Soul artist Kenneth Mugabi always goes for the traditional look; he is mostly in a Kitenge or traditional 'Kikoyi'.

Crossing over to the female stars, most of them always settle for bold and balanced attire, in that they are revealing but not too much. Some of the top artists who feature in the fashion category include; Sheebah Karungi, Lydia Jazmine, Vinka, Spice Diana, Cindy Sanyu and Winnie Nwagi.
