EXCLUSIVE: 2014, The Year That Was Octopizzo!
21 January 2015

See, the thing about music is, it straightjackets a poem and prevents it from breathing on its own, whereas it liberates a lyric. Poetry doesn't need music; lyrics do. However, one Kenyan artiste has merged lyricism and poetry and given the two a life of their own. With every one of his compositions, you can hear the song already playing independently. He needs no introduction but I had the red carpet so it’s only fair I roll it out. World, meet Octopizzo!
He is the artist of the day today as one of Mdundo’s 2014 most downloaded artists and with his infinite success last year is this any surprise? Octo, started off the year with a bit of a tussle with fellow rapper Khaligraph Jones which was one of the highlights for the entire of the hip hop year and the adept rapper he is, took it quite modestly but still managed to hit the bulls eye! ‘Paul Tergat’? anyone remember that?

He of course didn’t let that sway him off the race track as he followed the beef with infinite and transfinite hits. This according to me was the icing and cherry on the cake. From ‘Blackstar’, ‘Hala’, ‘Salute Me’, to collaborations with Mumala that got international recognition, then the drop of the ‘Chocolate City’ album, Octo made rap look too easy; with both hands tied behind his back and only a voice on the mic!
He then wrapped the year up in a bow knighted ‘Something For You’ which is still an anthem to date! To say Octopizzo owned the year would be an understatement – the year was Octopizzo! Follow the link below and explore more on Octopizzo to get a clue of why he might just be the best rapper out of the 254!
