EXCLUSIVE: Sauti Sol's 20 Weeks Reign Comes To A Halt!
19 January 2015
It’s only a matter of time before my lips go sour - blue from the many times I’ve said this bands’ name. Honestly, my first love would be jealous if she knew that 'Sauti Sol' has graced my lips more times than she ever did. Well, it all comes with fame I guess. The group has dominated our Top 25 charts with their ‘Sura Yako’ single for more than 20 weeks, which saw it becoming more popular than the national anthem and an obsessive compulsive habit to most. Today, the clouds seem to have molded a different character after P Unit claimed the throne with ‘Weka Weka’, pushing Sauti Sol to the second spot.
Last year, it was considered a crime punishable by crucifixion if a wedding ceremony went on without the airwaves ever tasting the sound of this particular song: “Sura yako mzuri mamaa….tabasamu lako maua…” and having the ability to simply sing that far, immediately qualified one as a Sauti Sol die hard and Kenyan music “patriot” at large. The boys with the voice undoubtedly owned the year and the numbers spoke tons when the views on YouTube stretched to over 900,000 views!
Well now, it seems that we may be changing the ring in our head to a different tune, ‘Weka Weka’. Get both songs below and let us know whether P Unit ’s new anthem deserves to be crowned King or perhaps this is a temporary switch. Fans decide!
