Kachanana Simate Defends Macky 2 Over His Involvement in Political Campaigns

Zambian gospel musician Kachanana Simate has defended Macky 2 against criticism by a section of netizens, following his involvement in political campaigns during the August 2021 presidential election.

Macky 2’s support for Patriotic Front (PF) party in the August presidential elections put him on a collision course with is fans who felt betrayed. He defended himself saying that all he did was make business decisions by composing campaign songs for PF party.

Defending the singer, Simate urged Zambians to understand that Macky 2 is a man with a big heart that overlooks “business”.

She recalled that a few months ago just before the Zambian General Elections – she reached out to Macky 2 for help and he never turned her down.

Here is her full narration defending Macky 2:

A few months ago, I remember following a producer to a location in ibex hill so I could pick him up and that we record some music. I didn't find him, but I found a large group of artists collecting money for productions of music and campaigns. Some of them told me come on, just talk to Macky 2 he gives you a plug (connection) so that you do a campaign song.

But I clearly remember God telling me I sing for Him now so I could not do that, to the frustration of my friends. One of them told me, Kachanana you don’t need to sell out, use the platform and resources to further the word of God. You don't need to do a campaign song.... I talked to Macky2 privately. I told him, " you know I am now a Christian... I can't do campaign songs for man...do you think you can support me?"

Within 10 minutes, I received the total budget money required for the music video production of the gospel song, "GOD LOVES ZAMBIA." There was no obligation to brand it any party as it was a neutral song. I knew on that day that Macky2 is not all about the money. He is not all about the business. He freely supported the work of God without a promise or kickback. Just because it was requested of him.

His decision to go full force in this politics was a business decision that went wrong. I have done this before. But I can testify that he is not all about the business. Even if you say it yourself, Macky2, I reject it on your behalf. You are NOT all about the business/money. There is much more in you. So I speak a blessing on his life.”
