Zambian media personality and Kwithu FM host Paige Ethy is troubled by the status of Zambian music, which she says is below par as compared to Tanzania, Nigeria and South Africa.

Paige has urged Zambian artists to be more creative in how they make their music. She says that in Tanzania, artists will try out a new genre by featuring the kings and queens of that particular genre.

Paige gives an example of Amapiano, a popular a huge sound from South Africa which a couple of Tanzanian artists have featured South Africa’s biggest Amapiano stars.

“I love the authentic way of music from Naija/Tanzania artists, if they want Amapiano they feature someone from SA,” she says.

The celebrity radio host adds that with the growth of music in Zambia, artists should desist from copying beats and making it sound like they have nailed it.

“Zambian industry is growing bigger we should start looking in that direction. Not just copy and paste of Amapiano beats just cause it’s the new wave. In Naija or other countries, they ft someone from SA or they let an SA producer produce the track. Music is deeper than the ocean let’s put some respect and let’s be authentic,” she opined.

Paige’s sentiments cut through a general concern by artists that Zambian music is harder to push out beyond the borders. Some have accused their countrymen of failing to render enough support to their own artists.

However, Paige feels that authenticity and creativity are the missing links to take Zambian music a notch higher.

“We need to see change. If they can’t afford it, let them do their usual music,” she advices.
