Who really is Nikki Mbishi, popularity in Kenya

Nicas John Marwa Machuche; I don’t expect that to sound familiar to you at the moment but Nikki Mbishi surely does.

Not necessarily to many Hip-hop fans in Kenya but in Tanzania he’s a household name rocking the airwaves with lyrical prowessness.

The Dar es Salaam based artist rose to fame when he participated in a freestyle competition at Coco Beach in Tanzania that gave him the opportunity to work with M-Lab Records.

M-Lab (Music Laboratory) is a branch of Media Kings Tanzania Ltd, a company that deals with production of audio and video jingles, adverts, documentaries and PA systems.

Being a true emcee, Nikki hasn’t looked back since then and he released his debut album ‘Sauti Ya Jogoo’ which was received well in his home country. He’s now on his second album titled ‘Malcom XI’.

He broke into the Kenyan music scene a few weeks ago when he featured Kayole’s finest Khaligraph Jones in the song ‘Baba Malcom na Baba Yao’ referring to him and Khaligraph respectively.

Nikki signed up with Mdundo over the weekend and just to prove to us how huge he is, two days later five of his songs are the most downloaded with ‘Yote Sawa’ topping the chart.

To all Hip-hop fans in East Africa I highly recommend you download and listen to Nikki Mbishi’s songs in first and second albums via the link tagged below then get to know why he’s so huge in Tanzania.
