A section of Kalandanya Music Promotions (KMP) artists are on the firing end following results of the recently concluded Zambia presidential elections where the incumbent President Edgar Lungu lost to opposition’s Hakainde Hichilema.

A few months back, a section of KMP artists composed campaign songs for the then ruling party, Patriotic Front (PF). Yo Maps, Macky 2, Slapdee, Mampi and Nez Long are some of the KMP artists who composed campaign songs for PF.

However, after news of Hichilema’s win under United Party for National Development (UPND), they all came under fire.

Reacting to the attacks, the KMP artists noted that they were doing business, and should not be criticized and condemned for it.

“The way you are tagging me guys hmmmmm ok mpeni fye mpilipili nshete naflieka fi business,” Mampi posted.

For Yo Maps and Nez Long, they made statements alluding to “more than business” in the campaign songs, but their fans still castigated them for failing to read the mood of the people.

“We deserve celebrities that learn to read the atmosphere and mood of the people and also to stand with the people,” Andrew Longa stated.

“These people told us it was just business and we understood but y are they still guilty,” Choolwe Chavula said. Hichilema won the polls in his sixth trial. He trounced the incumbent Lungu by a million votes.
