SAMA Awards Orgaziners Announce Date for 2021 Edition

The organizers of the South African Music Festival Awards (SAMA) have announced that the 27th edition of the festival will be held on July 31, 2021.

According to the organizers, the event will be televised on SABC starting 19:30.

Lesley Mofokeng, SAMA’s spokesperson while speaking to Channel24 said this edition will be ‘lit’. Mofokeng maintained the 27th SAMA edition will be a "one-night extravaganza” geared towards giving everyone a live feel.

Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi lauded the decision to have SAMA back on SABC1 after a shocking year dotted by Covid-19. Sibisi said it is a good thought having back SAMA on SABC1 because it gives more eyeballs to the public.

"We are delighted that the SAMAs have returned to SABC1 and we promise a show befitting the calibre of musicians nominated this year. Against all odds and the challenges of Covid-19 lockdown we have managed to curate a memorable one-night extravaganza experience that will be entertaining and keep our loyal audiences on the edge of their seats. July 31st is a date,” Sibisi said.

The hosts for the event are yet to be revealed although the organizers say that “they will add their star power and vitalise the proceedings to keep the show a thrill-a-minute."
