Celebrated Kenyan gospel artist Pitson has opened up on the creation of his ‘Lingala Ya Yesu’ hit, noting that he was forced to cut short his honeymoon to shoot the video for the song.

Speaking to Mdundo during an Insta Live interview, Pitson recounted being on Honeymoon when he got a call from director Ken Heman to come and shoot the video for ‘Lingala Ya Yesu’. Before getting the call in 2013, Pitson had shared the audio for ‘Lingala Ya Yesu’ with Deejay Moz of Kubamba show, who later shared it with director Ken Heman.

On hearing the song, Ken immediately noted that it was a hit and contacted Pitson to come and shoot the video. Unfortunately, the timing was not good as Pitson had just gotten married and was enjoying his honeymoon with his wife.

“By the time he is saying let’s shoot I had just finished my wedding, I was on my honeymoon. So I told him bro mi niko honeymoon, siezi kuja,” Pitson stated.

Ken insisted and convinced him to cut his Honeymoon short in order to shoot the video. “So I talked to my wife tukasema let’s cut the honeymoon short, so we came, we recorded Lingala Ya Yesu on a Wednesday, On Friday I had the song, he edited it mbio mbio,” he recalled.

Expounding more on his musical journey, Pitson recalled that prior to releasing ‘Lingala Ya Yesu’ he had given up on music following an incident where someone stole his song. “I graduated I went to work at the bank Stanchart, so at that point, one of my songs was stolen. So I quit, by the way, I said hii maneno mi sitaki, yaani hii industry ilikuwa imenichokesha. I can’t believe I can be just a campus dude just doing well and then someone steals my song,” he recalled.

During his hiatus, his friend Mwenyehaki convinced him to do one more song dubbed ‘Wanajua’ which not only became his first breakthrough into the music industry but also gave him hope that all things were possible.

During the recording for ‘Wanajua’, he met Noel Waitara who later recorded ‘Lingala Ya Yesu’.

“I went to Noel Waitara we recorded Lingala ya Yesu, so I just had Lingala ya Yesu on my phone for a very long time,” he explained.
