SONG REVIEW: From The Same Old Sad Story To A Masterpiece!
2 December 2014
The most important thing in a relationship isn’t communication as most tend to believe. It is hearing what isn't being said. The art of reading between the lines is a life long quest of the wise. This is an issue singer/ songwriter Kagwe Mungai addresses in his new song, ‘Creeper’.
Being his third studio single this year, Kagwe takes things to a whole other level blending several genres and still manages to make the jigsaw piece sound like a single piece; ragga, dancehall, hip hop and R&B to paint a single sound, 'Creeper'.
The story is a plaint from a man who finds out that his girlfriend is cheating and decides to confront her despite all the difficulty of the situation. Sure, this is not an alien story, but the magic is in how Kagwe Mungai moulds the lyrics to avoid sounding like an old song. He reflects on current issues and how the modern day means of communication fail when it comes to insipid matters.
He then takes us through the confrontation stage and the change that takes in the man after this. He turns to a sort of ‘Hard to get/ hard to play’ kind of guy which as much as it sounds wrong, perfectly suits him… “No more Mr. Nice Guy…am sick of you and your type, caught you creeping, creeping…”
This tune like all of Kagwe’s previous masterpieces is just the breath of fresh music you need in your system right now. Addictive, simple and indulging: the holy trinity of any great song. I don’t know about you, but after Kagwe’s last video ‘Biggest Fan’, I simply cannot cage the anticipation for the visuals of ‘Creeper’!
