Renowned Kenyan musician Ringtone has caused an online debate after going on a rant about the current deplorable state of the gospel music industry in the country.

Be Encouraged by Psalms 118:14

In a video uploaded on his Instagram account, Ringtone spoke on behalf of gospel artists, citing that they are currently going broke due to lack of money which they get from views.

He went a step further and requested MCs, DJs and those in charge of music at ceremonies to make it a culture of opening and closing with gospel music.

“Nataka kuongelesha wale wasee wote ambao wanapenda sherehe, manze nataka kuwarequest on behalf ya wasanii wa Gospel music bwana, Wasanii wa Gospel wanasota kwasababu hawapati pesa za views bwana, nyi mnasikiza secular music peke yake, atleast fungua sherehe na gospel, at least funga sherehe yenu na gospel music,” he stated.

In addition, he beseeched his fans to start listening to gospel music as early as this weekend as they attend various parties, so that gospel artists can start getting views and continue sustaining their livelihood.

“At least this weekend, wale watu mnaenda kumisbehave na kusherehekea, please cheza gospel music, unajua siku hizi views ndio inalipa wasanii wa gospel, ndio wapeleke sadaka kanisani, ndio waweze kuvaa vizuri, msitajirishe wasanii wa secular peke yake, promote wasanii wa gospel,” he emphasized.
