Throwback Thurs: 10 outstanding Hip-hop hits!
7 November 2013
People all over the world still say Hip-hop is dying and unoriginal. Hip-hop heads have recognized that the genre has been saturated by no-talent clowns but the industry is burning up with love for these somewhat newcomers in the game; From Chief Keef, Machine Gun Kelly, Asap Rocky and whoever else maiming the game.
But as we either appreciate or criticize the new lot of rappers with the new style it’s important that we take you back in time when it was all about consciousness. We have sampled only 10 of some of the greatest hits in the last decade.
Check out the 10 throwback Hip-hop jams and tell us what you think!
#10 Hate It Or Love It (Remix) - G-Unit
The only song recorded with all five members of the G-Unit crew. 50 Cent, The Game, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Back. When it was an actual unit as opposed to just different pieces of the puzzle right now.
#9 Haters – Jahmani featuring Kantai
Aw, we had to include this once again since Kantai is officially making a comeback! He had and still has mad skills. Produced by Jomino, the track also takes you way back when rapper Jahmani was trying to take over the industry all for himself with Swahili kills.
#8 Ukoo Flani – Wenyeji
Someone said screw all other sleezy* kenyan noisemakers! Wenyeji were as good as their rhymes and wordplay. The flow on this track was tight and listening to it in 2013 it still sounds the best Swahili Hip-hop track in Kenya.
#7 Lose Yourself – Eminem
One of Eminem’s biggest hits based on realities about overcoming very long odds and delivered through story telling technique. By far and away the greatest throwback hands down. No disrespect to the above listed.
#6 K.E.R.E.A - Abbas Kubaff
This is what you consider the makers of great rap music! If Abbas released this song today almost five years later, the vibe is still same; a storm! That is after analyzing the song time and time again and i'm not even his biggest fan. The track just moves you every time because change is only thing that's constant.
The other five are;
#5 Kiswahili – Jahmani
#4 Mangirima - Kalamashaka feat. Mashifta
#3 Fanya Tena - Juliani, Johnny Boy, K-Swiss & Agano
#2 Issues – Kantai
#1 Mos mos - E-Sir feat Brenda
