Ykee Benda Expresses Desire to Work with Akon

Celebrated Ugandan musician Ykee Benda has expressed his desire to work with American singer Akon, terming the latter one of his biggest inspirations.

In a post on his official Twitter page, Ykee Benda used the hash tag #AkonVumbulaYkee (translated from Luganda to mean ‘Akon Discover Ykee’) that had been initiated by his fans to get Akon’s attention.

“Please let Akon know that I would love to do a big African Banger with him before he builds that city. He is one of the biggest reasons I am doing this music thing man. #AkonVumbulaYkee,” Ykee Benda tweeted.

According to Ykee Benda, he grew up listening to Akon’s music. He noted that songs from the American singer inspired him to pursue music as a career.

The Senegalese-American singer, record producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and actor arrived in Uganda last week for a business trip.

Reports indicate that Akon is keen to invest in Uganda. One of the major investments he is reportedly lining up is building a city with different sectors that will help the country, especially the entertainment industry.

Akon has never worked with a Ugandan musician, therefore Ykee Benda is hopeful that the renowned musician will consider his appeal and grant him a chance to be the first Ugandan singer to collaborate with the ‘Lonely’ hit maker.
