The partial lockdown affected five counties including Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Machakos, and Kajiado.
In addition to the lockdown, he also instituted new curfew measures to start from 8 pm to 4 am, the suspension of county assemblies, and the closure of bars and churches in the five affected counties.

The move was met with a lot of negative feedback by Kenyans, who took to various media platforms to express their displeasure with the overall handling of the pandemic by the government since March last year.
In one online campaign, Kenyans requested the president to unlock the country in order to salvage the most affected categories of people who rely on the Education, Entertainment, Tourism, and Hospitality sectors to feed their families.
