Nince Henry: How Listening to Western Music Made me a Great Songwriter

Popular Ugandan singer and songwriter Nince Henry has cited western music as being the number one driving force behind his amazing songwriting skills.

Nince Henry has made a huge mark in the Ugandan music industry which he credits to listening to diverse music and appreciating old school artistes.

According to him, when he ventured into the Ugandan music scene, he opted for the old artists from the Kadongo Kamu genre like Elly Wamala and Paul Kafeero. He advises upcoming songwriters to always take time and listen to such artistes.

“Listening to American music; the Hiphop and RnB also upped my skills and lyrical flow to some extent. They really have good lyrics that taught me something…People who are growing their talent in songwriting listen to western music if they really want to be good because they do it really well," Nince Henry said during an interview with Sanyu FM.

Nince Henry started out as a songwriter in his senior six. His first song was Bebe Cool's ‘Sweet Lovin’ that blew everyone off.

Thanks to the song, Nince Henry made a name for himself and was able to get more artists interested in his services.

Speaking in a recent interview, Nince Henry noted that Bebe Cool was his mainstream ladder and was responsible for making him a popular songwriter in Uganda.
