Nadia Mukami Calls Out African Music Sites for Disrespecting Kenyan Artists

Celebrated musician Nadia Mukami has called out African music sites for disrespecting Kenyan artists when giving ranking reports.

To express her displeasure, Nadia posted a screenshot of a music site ranking African artists by merit of YouTube views, which had conveniently ignored all Kenyan artists.

According to her official YouTube streams chart from her YouTube channel, Nadia currently has over 36 million views making her eligible to have appeared in the chart.

Expressing that this is how Kenyan artists are normally treated, Nadia posted the chart which recognized African artists from other countries alongside her official YouTube views amounting to 36 million with a caption that read, “The kind of disrespect they like to give Kenyan artists. I have 36 million streams on YouTube, which means a top female artist in Africa!! But they always like to discriminate and exclude us!! Total disrespect. For how long are we going to fight for inclusion!!!?? Am I an Asian? Am an African @hotnewafrobeats.”

She also posted another screenshot of the same site excluding her in the chart for most followed African female artists on Tiktok alongside a screenshot of her official TikTok page which has over 110,000 followers.

Sadly, other renowned artists have been expressing a lack of respect for Kenyan artists at the local and international level. Recently, Otile Brown stirred a debate online after putting up an Insta story which called for Kenyan artists to be respected. He explained that Kenyan artists work hard and get limited help compared to other musicians in the world.
