Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) last year elected new officials with former vice-president Ykee Benda taking over as the association's president.

Joining the board for the first time was singer Cindy Sanyu who stepped in as a Vice President.

As the association prepares for another election, it has now emerged that those interested in elective posts will have to pay some cash in order to contest.

Candidates interested in being the presidency will pay UGX 500,000, 400K for the deputy, and treasurer, 300K for the Secretary General and the deputy treasurer, and 200K for Communications and PR head.

Reacting to the charges, Spice Diana noted that they are essential in the running of the association.

"Every organization needs funding to mobilize activities. We need leaders but personally, I'm not ready to serve maybe in future because I'm busy with my side of work," Spice Diana told Spark TV.

On his part, Gravity Omutujju noted that he can never contribute to the association which he has always termed as useless.

"I could never invest any coin to lead artists. You can't lead anyone because everyone is on their own in Uganda. That is what is preventing us from growing as an industry; the same reason the authorities are not letting us to perform. All that is media stunt but those elected can never stand up for artists so I don't believe in that association. All that money being collected is aimed at scamming artists," Gravity opined.
