A section of Ugandan artists have reacted to the recent total shutdown of the internet as the country took part in the general election.
Last week on Wednesday, social media was banned in Uganda, after which the government proceeded to enact a total internet shutdown in the country for several days.
Reacting to the shutdown, several artistes have criticized the government for creating massive losses as thousands of Ugandan depend on social media for their livelihood.

Top Ugandan musician Spice Diana noted that social media is very crucial especially at this point when artistes are not allowed to perform on stage.
"This is the only platform we use to push our music. Previously we were doing well but the likes and views went down with the introduction of OTT. Just as we were getting used to this, the internet ban came. I feel so bad because this is dragging us behind as influencers, we only have the internet to promote our business," Spice Diana told Spark TV.

On his part, Uganda Musicians Association President Ykee Benda noted that "We can joke about the internet shutdown but no no this was below the belt. The number of businesses that thrive off the internet in this country you wouldn't believe. You need to remember the government is in place to serve the people in most countries," Ykee tweeted.
The internet was partially restored on Monday but social media platforms remain blocked.
