Wizkid Sets Another African Record With Hit Song 'Come Closer' Featuring Drake

Nigerian singer Wikzid has set yet another record in African as his 2017 hit single 'Come Closer' that he features Drake has been certified Platinum in Canada.
This makes the multiple award-winning singer the first African artist to have a single certified Platinum in Canada.
Music Canada confirmed the certification after the song which Wizkid revealed that it was recorded in 2016 sold over 80,000 units in Canada.
"Come Closer," the 2017 single by Nigerian artist @wizkidayo ft. @Drake, is now officially certified Canadian Platinum!," Music Canada tweeted.
The song was released as the third single from Wizkid's third studio album, 'Sounds from the Other Side'.
Wizkid had in September 2020 become the first African artist to be certified Gold (both) as a featured and lead artist in the United States, as 'Come Closer' sold 500,000 units.
In August and November 2017, the song was certified Gold and Silver by Music Canada and the BPI in the United Kingdom respectively, making it his most commercially successful international single till date.
'Come Closer' which is the third song Wikzid has teamed up with Drake remains the most streamed Nigerian song ever on Spotify with over 96 million streams as at November 2020, and is the most successful song by an Afrobeats artist commercially.
The song has won Wikzid a number of accolades including Song of the Year at the 2017 AFRIMMA awards, two Headies Awards in 2018 and four nominations.
Currently, the 'Come Closer' video which was posted on YouTube on April 7, 2017, has over 99.5 million views.
