One On One With Kenyan Based UK Rapper Chrome

Leader and founder of Hip-Hop group GTP (GET THAT PAPER) Chrome is a UK Rapper currently based in Kenya. Raised in one of the most gang populated areas in UK, London, Chrome decided to take a more positive route out of the ghetto than to sell drugs or pick up a firearms as most of his peers did and found therapy through writing his thoughts and feelings down on paper.

So far he has one EP out dubbed You're More Than Welcome and has worked with the biggest record label in Central and East Africa Grandpa Records; you may have heard his single How You Want It featuring the muti-talented Visita spinning through your airwaves and wonderd to yourself who is Chrome? we had the opportunity to sit down with him and dig deeper into who he is, what he represents and what he hopes to achieve as an artist in the local music scene;

Q: Hey how you doing Chrome? How does it feel to be back home?

Chrome: I'm good thank you. It's wonderful to be here. It's hot.

Q: So Chrome, would you see yourself as a Gangster Rapper?

Chrome: No. Not, I really wouldn't say that to be honest. I'm a story teller. I have a story to tell of my past experiences as well as what I've seen and still see. I just tell it how it is, how I see it.

Q: How Was life in a London ghetto?

Chrome: Well it wasn't difficult financially. It was just dangerious. You leave your house today, you may not go back home tonight. We have a lot of anger and hate towards each other. My friend lost his life in broad day light with witnesses. kids are selling drugs and running around with guns. its a different kind of  struggle, its a struggle for survival. You have to protect yourself by any means neccssary.

Q: Where you ever involved in such movements?

Chrome: I was Gang affliated from a young age. but if you listen to my music and you'll learn more about my history.

Q:Most recently you have been working with the multi talented Visita and Grandpa Records,How was that experience and what do you have coming up for the Kenyan market? Will you be rapping in Kiswahili?

Chrome: (Laughing)  I can't really talk in swahilli unfortunately but I can understand it. So I wont be rapping in Swahili; however working with a talented and skilled producer such as Visita, who is a perfectionist,it has been an incredible experience thanks to Refigah. I believe Visita is an international talent. He's a powerful artist I don't believe anybodys touching him over here . So yeah, we've been working and we're about to shoot the video to my new single How You Want It . So far  I've recorded 3songs with Grandpa, I'm just getting started.

Q: Last but not least, Beef. Would you ever beef a muscian?

Chrome: Nowadays, rappers are beefing everyone to kinda remain relevant in the publics eyes. I'm still new in the game but that doesn't take away the fact that I'm still a lyricist. If a close to good enough rapper with the right amount of exposure sent a shot to me,  I may just take his career to a higher level in exposure right before my reply makes him/her disappear. Beefing me in anyway is a brave move. But if you try to beef me and I don't reply it's most probably because simply, I like a beneficial challenge lyrically. I don't wanna be seen as a bully now and if I don't know you, I wouldn't assist your career by engaging into your wanted activities.
