Nigerian artists Omah Lay and Tems are the talk of the town after they were arrested by Ugandan police for having a show in the capital despite an existing Covid-19 ban.

The pair was contacted by Prim Kasana (Events Manager), Ivan Ddungu, (manager of the place where the concert was held) to perform for the hundreds of party lovers that had graced the event despite a ban on public performances.

Omah Lay and Tems were arrested yesterday together with their managers and were charged in Makindye Court on for negligently engaging in acts likely to spread an infectious disease.

According to police, the earlier plans of releasing the artists on bond were suspended after their case file was sanctioned by the Office of the DPP. In view of the above, they are set to remain in custody until Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

Following the revelation, top Ugandan artists took to social media calling for the release of Omah Lay and Tems, arguing that the event promoter and organizer are the ones at fault.

Ykee Benda: Why arrest the artists like they booked themselves.....They will do anything but take responsibility.

Bebe Cool: Free Omah Lay. So much has happened to humanity in the world due to covid-19 but we need to focus on not hurting each other more than what covid-19 has done to us all. I called for this concert to be stopped and the authorities did not do so then. Damage has been done but we can avoid more damage. Free the artists and blame the organisers.

A Pass: This is so bad, you can’t hold these artists & their teams in this mix up, you allowed them in the country knowing they had come to perform. You should be dealing with the organizers and that broken system you manage. This is a shame.
