Last week, MTV Base officially unveiled the full list of nominees for the prestigious 2021 MAMA awards that will be held in Uganda for the very time in the country’s history.
Top musicians like Eddy Kenzo and Winnie Nwagi missed out of the nominations despite having a good year musically.
This caused a major uproar on social media with many questioning the criteria used in selecting the nominees.

Some of the artists who were not pleased by the list of nominees include; Winnie Nwagi, A Pass and Karole Kasita among others.
Reacting to the complaints by the above artists, veteran musician Bebe Cool, who has been nominated under the 'Best African Act' defended the award organisers, stating that they are marketing Uganda.
"...Uganda is being advertised positively, that means tourism is getting an opportunity because the more activities like that happeni in Uganda, the more we benefit when it comes to tourism. It also helps us to showcase the true Uganda,” Bebe Cool said.
The Gagamel boss noted that those complaining are doing it out of ignorance, not knowing the importance of the event to the country.
“Musicians are using their ignorance to attack MAMAs yet they don’t know that the MAMAs are good for us and are doing the right thing. Most of the hit songs now were released after the nomination process had ended,” he said on Uncut.
He defended his nomination stating that by that time, he had hit songs and deserves the slot.
