TBT: 5 Veteran Artists Who Rocked Uganda in the Early 2000s

The 1990s and 2000s were known for a number of things but most importantly, it gave us iconic music ranging from; amazing RnB, Kadongo Kamu, Ragga to Afro Beat.

As we wind down 2020, we have decided to highlight top five artists who rocked the Ugandan music industry back then.

Sweet Kid

Sweet Kid was one of Uganda’s biggest stars in the early 2000s. He came to the limelight with his track ‘Mama Brenda’ winning a Pearl of Africa Music Award in 2004 under the category of new upcoming musician at just 22. This made him the youngest musician in the Industry to win a national music award. He is known for songs like Akadde, Aberawo, Ndayira, Sirikyusa, Ssanyu Lyange, among others.

Mad Tiger

He was one of the most celebrated dancehall stars in the country. His 8-track album released in 2004 is one of the best music projects in the history of the Ugandan music industry. He is known for his popular hits that include; 'Obulamu Bwe'nsi' and ‘Tutendereze Oyo Katonda’.

Emperor Orlando

Emperor Orlando was a force to reckon with during his prime in the early 2000s. Some of his top songs include; Nakonkona, Piga Makofi and Sisonga.

Ragga Dee

He rose to fame in the 90s with hits like Nakonkona, Bamusakata, Mbawe, Letter O, Empeta among others. During his prime, he received numerous awards for his amazing songs. He boasts of 18 albums.

Red Banton

Two decades ago, Masaka born Red Banton was among the biggest names on the Ugandan music scene. He had monster hits like Sija Kuva Kampala, Noonya, Money among others.
