Out And About: One On One With Dumbala Hit Maker Jay A

The Kenyan music scene has definitely taken a major turn from what it used to be, with the new generation of artists revolutionising music and taking it to a whole new level; Such artists include 23 year old JUma Ali aka Jay A who made his debut in the music industry only two and a half years ago and in less than six months, he had immediately cut a niche for himself in the Kenyan Music Industry, with a phenomenal growth releasing one hit after another.

Jay was as surprised as everyone else by how quickly he rose to stardom. His songs soon started circulating on Channel O, the Premier Television Music Channel in Africa and also on MTV Base. Jay A’s music talent soon drew the attention of some of the long established musicians in Kenya who invited him to feature in their songs.  Amongst them being the phenomenal STL, who has made a name for herself around the continent and in Europe with a large fanbase based in Norway.

He has recorded over 12 songs and released seven videos so far that have all become hits.  His latest song, ‘Dumbala’ is currently trending as the hottest song in Kenya and receives massive airplay from the entire top radio and television stations in the country and though he has maintained a low profile over the past few months, he is amongst the artists who are a part of Coke Studio Africa Season 2.
