Nigerian singer and songwriter MR P formerly a member of popular music duo P-Square has pushed forward the release of his album dubbed 'Prodigal'.
The album was originally scheduled for release on November 20 but Mr P now says it will drop in January 2021.
In a post on his social media pages, Mr P said the decision to push forward release of the project was as a result of the recent happenings in Nigeria following #EndSARS protests.
"Myself and my team have put in a lot of work in this project. But due to the current situation, we thought it best to put it on hold!" Mr P posted on his Facebook page.
He also noted that puting his project on hold was a difficult decision to make.
According to the singer who has been popularizing the project for several months now, had it not been for the protests, his team would have started promoting the Virtual/Listening Album Concert on November 1 ahead of official release.
"APOLOGIES Team P Today, we would have started the countdown to the release of THE PRODIGAL Album," he noted adding that "My team and management would’ve been promoting the Virtual/Listening Album Concert over a month ago which was supposed to hold on the 19th Nov towards the Album release on the 20th of Nov."
But even as his fans have to wait a little bit longer for the 'Prodigal' album, Mr P says he will be dropping a single off the project so as to give them a take.
The album, he said, contains 16 tracks.
"In order not to leave you without a taste of The Prodigal, (I didn’t want to release singles from the Album!) we have decided to release one song out of the 16 brand new Songs as a “Single” this year. And then the Album in January 2021!" Mr P said.
Officially known as Peter Okoye, Mr P together with his twin brother Paul Okoye, now Rudeboy, were members of P-Square, a music group that became popular after releasing several hit singles and albums that won that multiple awards.
Reports about P-Square breakup surfaced after Peter reportedly sent a termination letter to the group's lawyer. Prior to this report, the duo disbanded in 2016, supposedly over a disagreement about the role of their manager.
