Mwana FA, Babu Tale Win Parliamentary Seats in Tanzanian Election

On Wednesday October 28, 2020, Tanzanian took to the polls to elect their next set of leaders in an election pitting the incumbent President John Magufuli against his arch rival Tundu Lissu of the opposition party.

The election saw a number of musicians contest various elective seats. This article reviews the performance of several Bongo musicians in the just concluded general election:

Mwana FA

Popular Tanzanian artist Hamis Mwinjuma also known as Mwana FA has been elected as the new Muheza Member of Parliament. He was contesting on the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.

Babu Tale

WCB manager Babu Tale is now the Morogoro MP-elect. He was elected unopposed even before the elections were held.

The music manager made the revelation in an Instagram post where he also shared with fans when he decided to join politics.

“...Nimeshinda/nimepita bila kupingwa nikimaanisha kwanzia leo mimi ni Mbunge wa Bunge la Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania anayesubiri kuapishwa tu na nipo tayari kwenda kumsaidia Mwenyekiti na Mgombea Urais wa CCM Mzee wangu John Pombe Magufuli kwenda kujaza kura zake nyingi za NDIO,” he posted.

Mkubwa Fella

Further, WCB Wasafi's label manager, Saidi Fella popular as Mkubwafellatmk through Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has again won the Kilungule ward seat of the councilor. Said Fella won with 87% of all votes cast on October 28 2020.

Baba Levo

Renowned musician, comedian and radio presenter Baba levo has lost his bid to be the a councilor.  He was contesting under ACT Uzalendo party and has conceded defeat.

Prof Jay

Veteran musician cum politician Joseph Haule also known as Prof Jay has lost his parliamentary seat to CCM contestant Dennis Lazaro. Lazaro got 31,411 votes while Professor Jay got 17,375 votes.
