Artists in the USA are using their voices to get people out to vote as they also highlight the many wrongs going about in the country. The latest to join this bandwagon is Demi Lovato with her new ballad dubbed ‘Commander in Chief’.
Demi Lovato premiered this single at the Billboard Awards last night, where she was a performer, and then released the video shortly after.
Demi Lovato has been very intentional about releasing music that is conscious. ‘Commander in Chief’ highlights the many wrongs the current leadership under Donald Trump has put forth to discriminate against particular groups of people in the country and at the same time encouraging people to go out and vote.
‘Commander in Chief’ is a very minimalist ballad in the context of instrumentation. The song is based on a piano and the layering of the instruments. The only apparent layering is voices from a choir and some claps. Demi Lovato does not spread her voice her voice as much also and only belts once at the last chorus.
The video brings together different people from different backgrounds who lip-sync to the song. The video is a good representation of the different people in the USA. Demi Lovato only makes an appearance in the video towards its end. In the same way the audio is minimalistic, so is the video and they both come together to put out a powerful message.
Catch a vibe with Demi Lovato on ‘Commander in Chief’.
