Ugandan music star Eddy Kenzo has done a great job raising the country’s flag high across the world thanks to his great music.

Over the years, he has been able to scoop both local and international awards with the prestigious BET award being the highlight of his career so far.

Last week, he was nominated in the Africa Entertainment Awards USA in three different categories with fans expecting him to win at least one.

In this year’s edition, over 20 Ugandans were nominated an indication that the country’s is attracting global attention.

However, very few Ugandan have been winning global awards, with most of the trophies going to West Africa, specifically Nigeria.

According to Eddy Kenzo, most Nigerian artists win the global awards because of their large population.

He argued that the population translates to music sales and therefore improved production.

"If you add this to the audience and support from all over Africa because they broke out internationally and they are the biggest in Africa, they set the bar so high,” he opined.

However, Kenzo noted that despite them having huge numbers and money, Ugandan musicians are more authentic and more talented than them.

Eddy Kenzo is a popular figure in West Africa and he claims Ugandans back home do not understand his music sometimes because they are not flexible.

"The issue with Ugandans, they are scared of adventuring. When you introduce something new, they find it weird. We have to change our mindset and make music for different races but Ugandans don't want that," Kenzo said.
