Zimbabwe has a reputation for its unique genre of music, zimdancehall that has taken Africa by storm.
Over the years, dancehall music has gained a huge following and risen in popularity. It is more appealing to the youth and traces its roots to the 1980s.
It started in reggae beats but would soon evolve to what it is today. It highlights the plight of ordinary Zimbabwean citizens; from economic to political challenges. In fact, it became more vibrant during Robert Mugabe’s era where the economy was suppressed and politics sided to one family alone.
This article reviews 5 top dancehall artists in Zimbabwe at the moment. The list is no particular order:
Winky D ‘King of the Dancehall’
Winky D popularly known as ‘King of the Dancehall’ has had a lot of fame and glory coming his way over the invention of present day zimdancehall music. ‘Musarove Bogman’ ‘Paita party’ and ‘Bassline Rock’ are some of his biggest songs.

Lady Squanda
She is a lady of means when it comes to dancehall music. Lady Squanda has made a name for herself in the industry that is male dominated. ‘Ndinoyhaira’ and ‘Bhaisikopo’ are some of her biggest tunes.
Soul Jah Love
With his three dope dancehall hits, Soul Jah Love shot into the limelight so fast that many would not comprehend how he rose within a short time. His magical ‘Ndini Uya Uya’ ‘Gum Kum’ and ‘Pamamonya Ipapo’ did the magic in this genre of music.
Killer T
When the young artiste did "Makarova Ganaz," "Itai Ndione," "Hauterere," and "Tavakuda Kumbofarawo", they shot him to stardom in an instant. His success was simply overwhelming.
Jah Prayzah
