EXCLUSIVE: Rumpus Between YouTube and Pombe Bangi Hitmaker
17 September 2014
I bet every Kenyan by now is familiar with the words ‘Pombe Bangi’. All the credit of course going to none other than the artist with more guts than a matador, Rajayjay.
Well, like all good things, the ‘Pombe Bangi’ excitement too came to an end after YouTube took it down. The rapper had this to say, “Yes, Pombe bangi was banned on YouTube. All I got was an email stating "copyright infringement from public personality/influential person in Kenya” he quickly stated.
For those who don’t know, the rapper had sampled but a few words from Raila Odinga and made the words famous through the song, ‘Pombe Bangi’. Which in turn went viral in just a few hours after the release of the video. The visuals were what some termed explicit, disturbing and ratchet (the word on the tip of most Kenyans tongues), questioning the motive of the song.

Rajayjay on a previous interview claimed he the motive of the song was to start precisely what he got from the people; controversy. So all the ill talk and stones you threw at this artist he took and built a stone house.
“I am currently working on volume 2 of the Kenya Hype cypher so all my fans should know there’s pretty much more where that came from” he added
In the mean time get the audio version of ‘Pombe Bangi’ right here on Mdundo and re-live that crazy moment when one of the most controversial videos of the year dropped. “Kuna wengine wakiamka asubuhi, pombe!...akiamka asubuhi, bangi!”
