NEW MUSIC: Kid Willy With Nai

With the recent emergence and thrive of the Kenyan Hip Hop scene, several artists are taking advantage of the chance and diving into the bandwagon this includes artists such as Kid Willy who has just released a new single Nai off his upcoming EP NewbornEsir.

Kidwilly, whose real names are Willys Wanjie Kihumba is a spoken word poet, singer and rapper under the 254 CMG record label and according to him this single came from a personal place,

"The reason i did this song is because i felt like Nairobi needed an anthem to sing along to when they want to feel proud of their city"

Having grown in many neighbourhoods around Nairobi, he has had the opportunity to experience different cultures, which have had a profound effect on his music.

Being influenced by artists such as Fena Gitu, Khaligraph and Mumbi, his music is inspired by day to day life, and he also listens to a lot of music so as to get inspiration from sampling a lot of genres

" As an upcoming artist one of the main challenge i face is getting airplay since media houses choose to focus on choosing names over talent and profiling artists to fit into a genre, as opposed to variety"

Kid Willy is currently finalizing work on his EP that will be released in less than 2months, after which work on the videos will start.
