Zimbabwean-born Australian rapper Larry Makombe known by his stage name Slicker 1 is currently a global sensation thanks to his great music.

Slicker 1’s high quality music seen him brush shoulders with Jamaican musical kingpins among then Beenie Man, Elephant man, Dermaco, Antony B and his kinsman back in Zimbabwe Jah Prayzah.

The unforgettable moment of his career was a few months ago when he performed alongside Migos in a virtual concert held when the COVID-19 pandemic hit hard.

In August, he released a big tune ‘Jail Bird’ together with Antony B which touched many lives as it was angled towards the lockdown which was active at the time throughout the world.

His fame has seen him get featured by Maxi Priest, a legendary British-Jamaican reggae artiste. All this, he says, is a result of his work ethic and networks.

“I guess my work ethic helps me a lot and I am someone who is well connected. There is no secret there but all that is required is hard work to reach that level to be associated with big names like Migos,” Slicker 1 told H-Metro.

“The hunger to succeed or to do better than yesterday is what drives me. I want to inspire a whole generation of the youth through music and also to give back to society as an artist by assisting the less privileged,” he added.

After concurring the world, Slicker 1’s focus is now having more collabos with artistes from Zimbabwe.

“I admire the works of my friends for example Freeman, Pumacol, Poptain and Nutty O. These musicians have that sound that I like and I am looking forward to working with them some day,” said Slicker 1.
