Black Motion are counting 10 years in the business and to honour that, they have released their highly anticipated album dubbed ‘The Healers: The last Chapter’.
‘The Last Chapter’ is really a marriage of everything Black Motion represent, musically and a culmination of their journey from 10 years ago. The album is heavy on the sounds both Thabosmol and Murdah Bongz grew up listening to and an ode to artists they grew up loving.
In true Black Motion style, ‘The Last Chapter’ is a beautiful house album. Black Motion have sampled sounds from different eras, from the 70s in songs such as ‘Marry me’. They also mirrored their favourite artists to create authentic sounds from within Africa. Thabosmol and Murdah Bongz incorporated live instruments for the music they have on the music; Thabosmol plays the drums and Murdah put together the live instruments. They also incorporated sounds from nature such sounds from an indigenous tree from Namibia.
Their collaborations are with great songwriters from all over Africa to make sure that they have elements of many cultures within Africa. They have Swahili with Sauti Sol and Idi Aziz and pre-dominant collaborations with the best of the best from South Africa.
Black Motion have stated that ‘The Last Chapter’ is the last album closing off their first decade in the industry; disputing the rumour that they might be breaking up. We don’t know how their new decade might shape their sound or music generally but this has been a great decade for Black Motion.
Catch a funky vibe with Black Motion on ‘The Healers: The Last Chapter’.
