Rwandan RnB singer Derek Sano has cleared the air following rumours that he could be ditching his boy band Active to go solo.

Sano said that though he is working on his solo music, he is not leaving Active as alleged by the band’s members; Tizzo and Olivis Mugabo.

Tizzo and Mugabo made the claims following Sano’s release of his album ‘Extended Play’ which they said was a clear indication that the singer was on his way out of the band.

Sano said that the idea of composing his own music was inspired by the lockdown that was imposed months back in Rwanda following the coronavirus pandemic which made it hard for the music trio to come together and do what they do daily.

“The total lockdown made me think of changing the way I can do music. I was alone and I took enough time to think about myself and the future of my music, as an artist,” he told a local daily in an interview.

For Sano, he added, being on lockdown opened up his mind to explore more opportunities in music.

“I started to imagine what would happen to my career if the lockdown was to last a year or so. It was really a big challenge for me and I had no choice. It was time for me to stop putting limits on just doing music as a group and start working on my own songs because isolated or not, I have to still do music,” he added.

One of his biggest collabos released recently is ‘Down for You’ featuring upcoming female artiste Linda Montez.

Sano has also released ‘Mr Lava Lava’ and ‘Wow’ which are on his album, Extended Playlist  (EP).

Sano has pledged to remain committed in working with Active and completing projects which the trio boy band is working on.
