Renowned Ghanaian musician Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah popularly known by his professional name as Bisa Kdei has said that the Highlife genre has constantly been negatively tagged hindering it from growing and making it unattractive to the upcoming artistes.

Speaking in an interview with Y FM’s 107.9 Rev Erskine, the “Highlife Konnect” hitmaker said: “The Highlife genre which is an original Ghanaian sound is about telling stories but most fast-rising artistes are less interested in the genre because of what they have heard.”

He further added that the rumors being spread on the social media concerning the Highlife music genre gets to the young and upcoming artistes making them not to want any association with the genre.

“When you have a powerful platform and you talk about Highlife being old, it gets into the minds of people and it becomes a problem. So I encourage people to know that Highlife comes from Ghana and we must support it,” he said on the ‘Myd Morning Radio’ show.

Bisa Kdei said that just like other music genres such as Afro beats have been well promoted in Ghana, the same can be done to the Highlife music genre in order to revive it and give a better packaging that better attracts the young and upcoming artistes.
